A SAFY Social Worker addresses students before their school's Youth Club elections. Youth Clubs NetworkBuilding on the successes of our first Youth Club, we have extended our Youth Clubs Project. We are taking the SAFY Youth Club model into other deprived community schools in Kampala's slums and building a Network of support. SAFY Youth Clubs are now up and running in five schools in our community. They are self-sustaining and can draw on SAFY for support at any time. Now the Project is being extended to surrounding slums, giving young people a chance to learn and talk about HIV/AIDS and other issues that affect them. We have also established a thriving Network to help Youth Clubs share their ideas and experiences. The Youth Clubs Network Project has been welcomed by teachers, pupils and parents alike and has helped SAFY to reach a much wider audience and support base. Youth Day 2006In April 2006, SAFY celebrated the launch of the Youth Club Network by organising a Youth Day, which brought together young people, service providers and community leaders. Activities included inter-club sports, drama and debating competitions, educational video shows, and team building activities. Speakers included our local MP (a former pupil from one of the schools involved in our outreach program) and representatives from the Ministry of Health. The Ugandan Youth Truck, a joint initiative with the government and German Development Corporation that tours the country facilitating educational youth days, also attended. Our partner organisations had information stands, and offered HIV/AIDS counselling and testing. You can make a differencePlease, make a donation today. |
